Kerschen, Pauline L. "Polly" (Simpson), 88, died February 26, 2008. Visitation Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Resthaven Mortuary and recitation of the rosary is 7pm Wednesday, funeral Mass 10am Thursday, March 6, 2008 both at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 201 S. Millwood, Wichita. The funeral procession will lead to Resthaven Cemetery, 11800 W. Kellogg, Wichita where she will be laid to rest. Polly was born September 15, 1919 on a farm in Maize, KS, the daughter of Charles Abraham and Lucy Bell (Carter) Simpson. The Simpson family moved to Wichita where Polly met Sylvester John Kerschen. Polly, at 17 years of age, was called to the traditions and ceremony of the Catholic Church where she was baptized. On Oct. 4, 1937 she married Syl and later brought 5 children into the world. The third child, Paul Francis, became very ill at 18 months with meningitis, which left him severely handicapped. The fourth child, Sylvia Janet, lived 24 hours before returning to heaven. Polly nursed the sick, fed the hungry, and clothed the poor. Syl preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1984 and left her in the care of his brother Jerry, who proudly and lovingly became her caretaker and companion. Polly loved making every day special and people loved being a part of her life. All who knew her will remember her traditions and her tremendous faith in God. In the words of her grandchild, Amy, "Her spirit and heart were too big for her petite body, they had to be set free and soar". Sister Kerschen was born Dec. 27, 1917 in Cunningham, Kan., to Frank H. and Anna (Scheer) Kerschen. She made her first profession Aug. 7, 1935. She received her BS and MA in Education and MST. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Alfred; sisters, Louise, Grace, Genevieve and Mary Alice. Mardella E. Kerschen, 79, farm wife, housewife and Sacristan at St. Mary Catholic Church in Aleppo Kan., passed away July 5, 2007 at the Catholic Care Center in Aleppo, Kan. She was born December 15, 1927, in St. Marks, Kan., the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Strunk) Cordell. On April 12, 1950, she married Alfred M. Kerschen at St. Mary Catholic Church in Aleppo, Kan. She is survived by daughter Jane (Dick) George of Valley Center, Kan., sons and spouses, Dan (Norene) Kerschen, Don (Dana) Kerschen, Dave Kerschen, Mark (Tammy) Kerschen, all of Garden Plain, Kan., brothers, David Cordell of Garden Plain, Simon Cordell of Benton, Kan., sisters, Evelyn Bogner of Parsons, Kan., Catherine Baalmann of Halstead, Kan., Rosemary Martin of St. Marks, Kan., 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred. Rosary was at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 8 and funeral mass was 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, both at St. Mary Catholic Church. KINGMAN - Elmer J. Kerschen, 82, died Nov. 7, 2006, at Kingman Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1924, in St. Leo, the son of Michael and Anna Bugner Kerschen. A resident of Kingman County, he was a retired operations manager for Cessna Aircraft. He belonged to St. Patrick Catholic Church and a 60-year member of Knights of Columbus. On April 23, 1946, he married Helen Becker in St. Leo. She died May 17, 2001. Survivors include: two sons, Alan, Asheville, N.C., and Keith, Wichita; a brother, Roman, Kingman; three sisters, Marie Grieving, Kingman, Marce Goetz, Wichita, and Gen Laggart, Dodge City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Edward; and two sisters, Barbara Nicholas and Lorraine Adelhardt. Parish rosary was held Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with Father Jim Weldon presiding. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman. Kerschen, Daniel A. (Dan), Born Jan. 31st, 1940 Kingman, Kansas. Died Sept. 6th 2005. Dan is survived by his wife Patty. 4 Sons Danny-Dena, Tim-Debbie, William-Mindy of Texas, Randy-Teri of Colorado; 2 Daughters Julie, Kim-James of Texas. 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Patty's parents, Ann and Russell Wright of Council Grove, Ks. Sisters: RoseMarie-Md, Pat-Fl, Netta,-Ks. Gladys-Fl. Brothers: Lee-Ks, Gene-SC, Bob-Fl, Derald-Ks, Tom-Ks. Dan Loved God, Family, and his work. And he loved to play. Dan's career was in the electrical trade. Dan started working for McBride Electric in 1964. He later was promoted to assistant manager to Lloyd McBride. In 1974 Dan and Lloyd started McBride Electric of Texas. Dan was the managing partner and the Dallas office flourished under his leadership. In another time of expansion in 1992, Dan was asked by the company to open a new office in Atlanta,Ga. as the general manager. Much to Dan's credit, McBride Electric of Dallas and Atlanta are successful businesses and as a result over the course of time many lives have been blessed from their formation. Dan retired from McBride Electric in August of 1999 completing a career which spanned over 35 years. Funeral is at 10 a.m. on Saturday September 10, 2005, St. Patrick Catholic Church in Denison, Texas . There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday September 9, 2005 also at St. Patrick Church.

A resident of Pratt since 1966, moving from Kingman, she was a homemaker. He died Aug. 5, 2004. He is proud of the accomplishments of the hundreds of students he taught over the years. He graduated from Andale High School and Wichita State University and later received his master's degree in education. He taught history at Colwich Elementary school for 30 years. He was also a farmer. Survivors include: his mother, Johanna Kerschen, Cunningham; two brothers, Jim, Goddard, and Bob, Cunningham; two sisters, Corine Wilhite, Midwest City, Okla., and Verna Papotta, Simi Valley, Calif. ; and many nieces and nephews. Lorene B. "Bobby" Kerschen died in Merced, California, on January 5, 2003 at the age of 83 after an extended illness. With her husband, Marcellus J. Kerschen, and family, Lorene lived in Germany and Japan, settling in Merced in 1962. Lorene, a teacher for retarded and handicapped children for the Merced County School District, enjoyed exploring different cultures through people and food. She also enjoyed dancing, treasure hunting at thrift stores, and creating crafts of all kinds. Lorene is survived by one son, four daughters and three grandchildren. They are: Patrick Kerschen of Atascadero, CA; Linda Berry of Fontana, CA; Christina Kerschen of San Diego, CA; Rebecca Vollstedt of Fall Creek, OR; Maria Kerschen of Aptos, CA; John Kerschen of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Katherine Cook of Ap- tos, CA; and Laura Ann CohenKerschen of Atascadero, CA.
